SPOTLIGHT AWARDS

Marjorie Bender and Sheila Poncher were recently elected co-presidents of Club 100 for the 2008-2009 year. Janice Wallace and Sue Tsao will serve as Co- chairs for the Bravo Awards. Club 100 is a group of women leaders who work to build awareness and support for the Music Center's education programs. All of us at the Music Center look forward to working with Marjorie, Sheila and Club 100 in the coming year.

CLUB 100 of the Music Center
Founded in 1976, Club 100 of the Music Center is a support group of the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County. We are a group of dynamic professional and civic-minded women whose primary goals are to promote awareness of the importance of arts education in our public schools, and to generate funds for the Music Center.

To achieve these goals, Club 100 became the official sponsor of the annual BRAVO Awards, a unique and extraordinary Music Center event which showcases arts education in our schools by honoring exemplary arts educators for their innovation and leadership, and the resulting accomplishments of their students.

Originally established by the Music Center Education Division in 1983, the BRAVO Awards event has grown in size and stature. The Award continues to reinforce the positive ways in which creative arts programs in the school experience can engage not only the gifted and talented, but also the disenfranchised students, as arts education has been proven to foster self esteem, teamwork, and cross-cultural communication and understanding.

Research studies show that students who participate in the arts improve their achievement in other subjects including math, reading, and writing. They earn better grades, do better on exams, perform more community services, watch fewer hours of television, and out perform their non-arts peers on the SAT exams. For these reasons, we are passionate about supporting the arts in the schools.

WHAT WE DO
Club 100 supports the efforts of the Music Center by working in conjunction with the Education Division staff to produce the annual BRAVO Awards event. The BRAVO is considered Southern California's most prestigious arts education award and it is the primary focus of Club 100's mission.

Additionally, Club 100 members volunteer for other Education Division events, such as the annual Very Special Arts Festival, produced by the Music Center Education Division, which celebrates the artistic achievements of students with disabilities.

CONSIDER JOINING US
Club 100's mission has grown considerably over the past few years, and we are now inviting applications for new members to join with us.

We are a dedicated and enthusiastic group inspired by the teachers and students we meet and work with, and by our accomplishments as we continue to move forward.

The women of Club 100 also host special membership-only social events throughout the year, from Holiday parties to our Day of Adventure.

Membership obligations include annual dues of $100, and a yearly $400 donation to the Music Center, as well as participation in ongoing fundraising activities, committees and events.
