Dance Category

The following rules apply to both Ballet and Non-Classical dance applicants:

  • You will be judged on Artistry, Technique and Musicality.
  • Those scoring highest will advance to the semifinals. If you advance to the finals, it is your responsibility to obtain and present written permission from the choreographer or Trust if asked. You may use a tape or CD. Please make sure that it is of good quality with no audible applause.

Ballet

  • You must present two solo variations.
  • Ladies must choose at least one from the required list below. Your second variation may be classical or contemporary and may come from the required list below.
  • You may perform your own choreography for your second variation or one of your own choosing.
  • Men do not have a required variation.
  • Each solo must not exceed 2 minutes each, but may be shorter.
  • Female applicants must wear pointe shoes for both variations - whether classical or contemporary.
  • No costumes will be permitted; however, you may wear a skirt if desired.

Required Ballet List:

  • Swan Lake - Variation from Pas de Trois, Act 1
  • Don Quixote - Kitri's Variations, Grand Queen of Driad
  • Sleeping Beauty - Variations of Fairies, variation from Blue Bird Pas de Deux
  • Napoli - Pas de Six
  • Harlequinade - Variation from Pas De Deux
  • La Fille Mal Gardee - Variation from Pas de Deux
  • Coppelia - Variation from Wedding Pas de Deux, Act III
  • La Bayadere - Gamzati, Nikia Pas de Deux or 3 Variations of the Shades, Act III
  • Le Corsaire - Any variation
  • Giselle – Variation from Peasant Pas de Deux
  • Pas de Quatre - Any variation
  • Raymonda - Any variation

Non-Classical Dance

  • Be prepared to present one solo in the style of your choice (tap, jazz, modern, etc.) not to exceed 3 minutes.
  • Please refrain from using "cheerleading tricks."
  • You may perform your own choreography.
  • Applicants may not wear pointe shoes or costumes. However, costumes are permitted only if the dance requires one to be presented in an authentic manner.
  • Please do not lip sync while dancing.
