Master Class Teachers
Teachers may change for master classes beginning in 2009
Billy Childs (piano) is a multiple Grammy
Award-winner who has received numerous
orchestral commissions, including works
commissioned and premiered by the LA
Philharmonic. He composed “The Fierce
Urgency of Now” which was performed
by Wynton Marsalis, Lincoln Center Jazz
Orchestra, and himself as part of the
inaugural concert series for the new Jazz
at Lincoln Center facility.
Jeff Clayton (saxophone) is a co-leader of
the Grammy-nominated Clayton Hamilton
Jazz Orchestra. He has worked with Frank
Sinatra, Ray Brown, Count Basie, Stevie
Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Oscar Peterson,
and Ella Fitzgerald, just to name a few. Mr.
Clayton has taught at the University of
Southern California, UCLA, Vail Jazz Camp,
and Stanford Jazz Camp, among others.
Reggie Hamilton (bass) is a professional
musician and educator and has performed
with many artists worldwide, including
George Duke and Stanley Clarke. He has
performed with the Atlantic City Orchestra
and studied composition with Maestro
Dennis Sandole. His current solo recording
titled My Village features his talents both as
a producer and composer.
Frank Potenza (guitar) has had an
extensive freelance recording career and has
performed in concert with Dizzy Gillespie,
John Clayton, Bud Shank, Joe Pass, Brother
Jack McDuff, Jimmy Smith, Joe Sample,
Conti Candoli, Buddy Collette, Eddie
Harris, and many other jazz luminaries.
He is currently serving as a member of
the International Association for Jazz
Education’s resource team.
Carol Neblett has been a leading soprano
with the Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera,
and Salzburg Opera companies, among
others. She has worked with artists such
as Luciano Pavarotti, Zubin Mehta, and
Maestro Carlo Maria Giulini. Ms. Neblett’s
performances include Don Giovanni, La
Traviata, Manon, and Tosca, and she was
featured in James Levine’s 25th Anniversary
Metropolitan Opera Gala recording.
Karen Morrow has starred on Broadway in
I Had a Ball, A Joyful Noise, The Music Man,
The Grass Harp, and the Tony Awardwinning
The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
She has performed with the Los Angeles
Philharmonic, Metropolitan Symphony
Orchestra, and the Minnesota Symphony
Orchestra. In addition, Ms. Morrow has won
an Emmy and five Dramalogue Awards.
Eric Vetro is a vocal coach and musical
director who has worked with Broadway
stars such as Tony Award-winners Hugh
Jackman and Marissa Jaret Winokur, and
many other celebrities. He is currently
working with Bette Midler on her Vegas
production. He has been hailed as a “world
renowned voice teacher and vocal coach”
by Entertainment Tonight.
Zippora Karz is a former soloist with the
New York City Ballet. Her repertoire has
included The Four Temperaments, Agon,
Apollo, and Serenade, among others. Ms.
Karz has appeared in the prestigious PBS
series, Dance in America, as well as A
Balanchine Celebration. She regularly stages
commissions for major ballet companies on
behalf of the George Balanchine Trust.
Laurie Johnson is on faculty with Tremaine
Dance Conventions, Competitions, and
Performing Company. She performed at the
Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
honoring Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and
has performed with tap legends Gregory
Hines and Savion Glover. Ms. Johnson has
also danced at the American Choreography
Awards and in Debbie Allen’s The
Chocolate Nutcracker.
Joe Malone is an Emmy-nominated
choreographer. He received the coveted
American Choreography Awards for his
work on Boston Public and Ally McBeal. In
addition to commercials and movies, his
episodic television credits include Charmed,
Judging Amy, Joan of Arcadia, and Tracy
Ullman. Mr. Malone recently choreographed
Lennon on Broadway. He teaches master
classes nationally.
Diane Alancraig (flute) has worked with
some of the world’s most distinguished
artists and musical organizations,
including the Philadelphia Orchestra and
the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and has
toured widely in the U.S., Europe, and
Japan. She is currently on contract with the
Los Angeles Philharmonic and teaches at
California State University, Los Angeles,
and California State University, Fullerton.
John Perry (piano) serves on the faculty
at the University of Southern California,
Aspen Music Festival, the Colburn School
of Performing Arts, and the Royal
Conservatory of Music, among others.
In addition to being an adjudicator
for competitions, Mr. Perry guests with
symphony orchestras and holds master
classes at universities and conservatories
internationally.
Karl Vincent-Wickliff (bass) has been a
member of the Long Beach Opera, Pacific
Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and
the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He studied at
UCLA on a full music scholarship and has
won several awards, including a grant from
the National Endowment for the Arts.
Bing Wang (violin) joined the Los Angeles
Philharmonic as associate concertmaster in
the 1994-95 season. Ms. Wang has been
featured as a soloist with various orchestras
including the Manhattan Symphony and
the American Youth Symphony. In 1991,
she joined the Cincinnati Symphony and
became principal second violin of that
orchestra in January 1993.
Robert Watt (french horn) formerly held
the position of assistant principal horn in
the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mr. Watt
has been a soloist with many orchestras
including the Los Angeles Philharmonic,
the Boston Pops Orchestra, and the New
Jersey Symphony. He has performed with
the Philharmonic New Music Group and at
Chamber Music Society concerts.
